Meet The Presenter
Cheryl A. Bushman brings over 30 years of nonprofit leadership, behavioral health expertise, workforce development innovation, and program administration. She holds a Bachelor of Arts in Sociology from the University of New Hampshire along with Texas teaching certifications in 7–12 English Language Arts and EC–12 Special Education.
Why We Work
We focus on teaching through love & logic. In the classroom, teachers are often guided to teach through only logic. Teaching exclusively through logic assumes that behavior and learning are purely transactional: a set of rules is presented, expectations are enforced, and compliance is expected. However, students navigating academic, personal, or life challenges do not learn in a vacuum. When classrooms rely solely on logic and rigid structures, it creates a disconnect between students and educators. Our institute understands this and has developed workshops focused on teaching with empathy and compassion.

Financial Freedom For HOPE

Financial Freedom for HOPE is a developing, completely free program that will help people facing overwhelming debt understand their options, build financial skills and take practical steps toward greater stability. Through HATI Financial Freedom classes, individualized counseling and a navigator walking alongside them, participants will work toward manageable financial goals and regain hope for their future.
The program will help negotiate debt settlements. Participants will approve each settlement and pay creditors directly. The program will track progress and support follow-through.

Free HOPE Academy Training Institute (Financial Freedom Classes)

Proposed topics include budgeting, understanding debt and credit, reading bills, recognizing scams, communicating with creditors and planning for financial setbacks.

Individual counseling

Review income, essential expenses, debts and goals; explain options and create a realistic action plan.

Navigator support

Help organize paperwork, prepare for calls, keep appointments, understand next steps and stay connected to support.

Debt negotiation when suitable

Communicate with creditors under written authorization, obtain written offers and explain the proposed terms for the participant's decision.

Case follow-up

Track agreed actions, participant-reported payments and creditor confirmations; distinguish an agreement reached from a debt fully resolved.

Connect participants to appropriate legal, housing, benefits, employment, tax or other qualified support when needed.
